Private Piano and Vocal Instructor
Sarah Upchurch is a rising performer in the greater Nashville area. As a fourth generation musician, she is continuing the family tradition of making and teaching music. Her early start in piano led her to become an active private instructor in both voice and piano. Studying with Dr. Caleb Harris and Mrs. Patricia Ward, Sarah participated in several piano competitions including Bachfest and Clavierfest. Committed to nurturing music in the future generation, 2016 marks her tenth year as a private teacher.
Studying with H. Stephen Smith at Middle Tennessee State University, Sarah recently received her B.M. in Vocal Performance. She has had the opportunity to sing in masterclasses with Nashville Director of Opera, Amy Tate-Williams, and Julliard vocal coach, Dr. Arlene Shrut. Passionate about premiering new works, her current projects include singing with the Nashville Chamber Music Series and Nashville Symphony Chorus in addition to collaborations with composers. In the past few years, Sarah has premiered and recorded over twenty new works of music, both in piano and voice.
She appeared as a solo artist performing the Vivaldi Gloria with the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra as well as various solos with the MTSU Women’s Chorus and Concert Chorale. In her time at MTSU, she has appeared in productions of Hansel and Gretel and The Magic Flute, with her most recent role being Cosette in Les Misérables, which was a historic sellout.
